Biography:

Mohammad Ariyaei (b. 1987, Golpayegan, Iran) is a contemporary Iranian artist whose work reimagines the cultural and architectural heritage of Persia through a richly symbolic and unmistakably vibrant visual language. Entirely self-taught, Ariyaei has developed a distinctive practice that intertwines mythology, mysticism, classical Persian literature, and collective memory into intricately layered compositions that blur the boundaries between reality and imagination.

Deeply influenced by the Sufi traditions and folklore of his childhood, Ariyaei constructs immersive worlds where architecture becomes more than physical space. Domes, bazaars, mosques, gardens, bridges, and ancient monuments are transformed into living narratives, weaving together history, poetry, spirituality, and myth. Every surface is activated with intricate ornamentation, luminous color, and symbolic detail, inviting viewers into an ever-expanding landscape of discovery.

Working primarily in acrylic on canvas and paper, Ariyaei draws inspiration from the writings of Hafez, Rumi, Ferdowsi, Saadi, and Shams Tabrizi, creating works that celebrate the enduring richness of Persian civilization while speaking to universal themes of identity, belonging, imagination, and cultural memory. His paintings echo the intricacy of Persian miniature painting while embracing a bold contemporary sensibility, resulting in compositions that are both visually immersive and emotionally resonant.

A defining body of Ariyaei’s practice is his celebrated Architectural Series, in which iconic Iranian cities are reimagined as dreamlike tapestries of history and memory. Rather than documenting architecture as it exists, these paintings reconstruct it through imagination, allowing centuries of Persian artistic achievement to coexist within a single visual universe. The result is an enduring tribute to Iran’s architectural legacy and the cultural narratives embedded within its built environment.

Ariyaei’s work has been exhibited internationally across Iran, Europe, North America, and the Middle East, earning recognition for its singular artistic voice and extraordinary visual complexity.

Studio 37 is the exclusive representative of Mohammad Ariyaei’s Architectural Series, presenting this important body of work to collectors and institutions while celebrating one of the most compelling contemporary interpretations of Persian architectural heritage.
