Yasaman Farmanara

Yasaman Farmanara is a Tehran-born, Los Angeles-based painter and sculptor whose work explores the emotional terrain between what is outwardly visible and what remains unspoken. Drawing upon memory, personal experience, and the cultural contrasts that have shaped her life, she creates psychologically charged figurative works that hold space for ambiguity, vulnerability, and contradiction.

 

Yasaman began drawing and painting in childhood before relocating to Los Angeles, where she studied fashion design and built a decades-long career in textiles and fashion. This background informs her sensitivity to material, surface, color, and form. She later returned to her fine-art practice full time, working across painting, drawing, and sculpture.

 

Centered on the human figure, Yasaman’s work examines the feelings we conceal, suppress, or reveal only in fragments. Rather than resolving these inner tensions into a fixed narrative, she allows emotion to remain layered and unsettled—inviting viewers into a quiet encounter with memory, identity, and the complexities of the interior self.

 

Yasaman Farmanara will be presented by Studio 37 in October 2026.
